Civil Engineering Technician or Drafter (Olathe, KS)

 

Phelps Engineering Inc (PEI) is seeking a full-time Civil Engineering Technician or Drafter.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are in Olathe, Johnson County, KS (Kansas City area) which is one of the regions fastest growing areas.

  • We are seeking a civil engineering design technician or civil engineering AutoCAD drafter with a background or interest in land development civil engineering. Position involves drafting and designing residential subdivisions, apartment communities, commercial centers, and industrial projects. 

  • Position requires good communication with team members.  The successful applicant will be a self-starter, motivated to meet team deadlines and possess the ability to clearly communicate his/her work to other team members. Must have strong interpersonal, general computer skills, and ability to work well with others in a team environment.  In addition to a strong technical skill set, the position requires proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Requirements - Candidates should possess the following:

  • High School Diploma

  • Certificate in AutoCAD Drafter or Associates degree in drafting or design technology

  • Proficiency using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office 365, Bluebeam

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare civil engineering drawings and designs for land development projects utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.

  • Collaborate with design team members and use design information and sketches to prepare AutoCAD drawings.

  • Develop drawing and designs into a completed project plans.

  • Perform basic civil layout and design tasks which regularly require the application of fundamental math and engineering design computations and formulas (i.e. plan and profiles, slope calculations, grading information, cross sections, drainage)

  • Prepare various section cuts, profiles, cross sections from the plan views. Perform related fundamental engineering support tasks such as plotting drawings, making submittals, spreadsheet work, proof-reading, etc).

  • Draft construction details.

  • Determine construction quantities.

  • Interpret and address permitting agency comments related to the project drawings.

  • Communicate with permitting agencies, utility companies and contractors.
