AutoCAD Civil 3D Technician (Olathe, KS)


Phelps Engineering Inc (PEI) is seeking a full-time civil engineering AutoCAD Civil 3D technician / Drafter.



  • Prepare civil engineering drawings for a project, utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.

  • Work with minimal information and very rough sketches. Develop drawing and designs into a completed project, working under supervision of team leader.

  • Perform discipline design tasks which regularly require the application of fundamental engineering concepts and mathematical formulas (i.e. plan/profiles, slope calculations, grading, cross sections, drainage)

  • Determine construction quantities and perform necessary calculations using accepted formulas and references- Develop and detail minor design elements which have not been clearly defined in the layouts or sketches

  • Create various section cuts, profiles and cross-sections from the plan views- Perform related fundamental engineering support tasks (plotting drawings, preparing transmittals, preparing overnight package, updating computer lists, filing prints, distributing drawings, making routine calculations, proofreading reports, etc.)

  •  Address permitting agency comments. Communication with permitting agencies and utility companies will be required.

  •  Internet research of manufacturers data for aid in design documents

​MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school Graduate with vocational technical training in basic drafting technology and typically 2-5 years of related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience), or a 2-year degree in drafting/design technology and 1-5 years of related experience.



Must have AutoCAD Civil 3D experience and experience working on civil engineering plans (roads, sewers, waterlines, etc.). Skills also needed to operate personal computer spreadsheets and word processing applications, including such programs as Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint. Skills to operate general office equipment. Experience in general land survey practice, boundary and right-of-way surveying, topographic surveying, easement preparation and platting, property research and GIS data processing is a plus. Must be a self starter, dependable, detail oriented, motivated to complete work within timeframes established and work well in a team setting.
